My name is Moeno (or Mo) and I’m a 22 year old studying pattern-making and draping in Osaka, Japan with a private teacher. Dropped pins is a warning to those who enter my sewing area. There are dress pins all over the floor.
I’ve lived in Osaka for 2 years now, studying with my teacher from scratch. My previous sewing experiences were very primitive attempts resulting in items that were unwearable, or able to be worn once or twice. From my teacher I’ve learned how to drape and all the steps in between to finishing the fully sewn garment. But since I’m going back home to Canada next March, I will have to soak up as much knowledge as I can.
I wanted to start this blog since a great source for sewing techniques and inspiration has come from other sewing blogs and also because of my teacher. She’s a tiny 70 year old lady with over 40 years of teaching experience and is thinking of retiring from teaching after I am done. With her wealth of knowledge, it feels impossible to absorb it all and inevitable that it would go to waste as it lays forgotten in my brain. Therefore I want to share with fellow seamstresses to keep this information going.
Hopefully with the use of this blog I can record the last bit of my education, share sewing and draping techniques, and become a better seamstress and draper.
Don’t hesitate to e-mail me at droppedpins @ gmail.com if you have any questions or comments.
Thanks for reading.
